West Hollywood (a city in California) may increase its minimum wage soon to $17.64 per hour, which would cause it to have the highest minimum wage in the US. This will be voted on Wednesday, and if voted into existence, it would come into effect in January for hotel workers, and July for every other worker. California recently made its own minimum wage $14 an hour, which is the highest of any state. Currently, Emeryville, California has the highest minimum wage, at $17.13 an hour. The federal minimum wage is very low compared to these cities, as it has not increased since 2009, and is only $7.25 an hour. Biden and other Democrats tried to increase the minimum wage to $15 recently, but failed. Many big retailers have increased their minimum wages recently, since they are all competing for labor workers. Here is a list of some of the minimum wages:
