Alaska, the biggest state in the US, has been hit by an 8.2 magnitude earthquake. There is a chart below showing the effects of different earthquake magnitudes. This earthquake was the strongest since 1964. It happened about 56 miles southwest of Perryville, Alaska, and happened at 10:15 p.m.This earthquake wasn’t that deep – it was only 29 miles below the surface, which is shallow compared to other earthquakes.
At least two earthquakes came after – one of them was 5.6 magnitude, and the other was 6.2 magnitude. Many different places in Alaska have a tsunami warning. Most of the warnings changed into advisories, but the places with the advisories did not let their guard down. Hawaii had a tsunami warning, but the warning was canceled.
